Omega-3 A-Line is a dietary supplement based on purified fish oil containing the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. The package contains 90 softgels, providing a 30-day supply at the recommended intake.

The daily serving of 3 softgels provides 270 mg EPA + 180 mg DHA — a total of 450 mg EPA + DHA. The raw material originates from Iceland and wild marine fish is used.

Key facts
  • 270 mg EPA + 180 mg DHA per recommended daily serving;
  • a total of 450 mg EPA + DHA per day;
  • fish oil — 499 mg per softgel;
  • EPA — 180 mg/g, DHA — 120 mg/g of fish oil;
  • a direct source of the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA;
  • raw material originates from Iceland and wild marine fish is used;
  • highly purified fish oil without a characteristic fishy taste or odor;
  • 90 softgels = 30 days of use at 1 softgel 3 times daily;
  • in Fitocentr practical experience, the softgel is relatively small and easy to swallow.
When Omega-3 A-Line may be worth considering
  • if fatty marine fish is rarely included in your diet and you are looking for a direct source of EPA and DHA;
  • if you want to obtain long-chain EPA and DHA directly rather than relying only on plant sources of ALA;
  • if you want to see the EPA and DHA amounts separately rather than only the total amount of fish oil;
  • if the origin and purification of the fish raw material are important to you;
  • if you dislike the characteristic fishy taste or odor of fish oil supplements;
  • if dividing the daily serving into 3 intakes with meals suits your routine;
  • if you want a 30-day supply;
  • if large capsules are difficult to swallow: in Fitocentr practical experience, this softgel is relatively small.
How the formula is built

Omega-3 A-Line has a straightforward formula: its foundation is fish oil as a direct source of EPA and DHA. Vitamin E is also included. Therefore, the useful points to assess are not the number of ingredients but the origin of the fish raw material, the concentration of EPA and DHA and their actual amount in the daily serving.

Omega-3 is not a single substance

When we say “omega-3”, it is important to understand that this refers to a group of fatty acids, not one individual substance.

In plant foods such as flaxseed, chia seeds and walnuts, the main omega-3 fatty acid is ALA, alpha-linolenic acid. Fatty marine fish provides different forms — the long-chain omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA.

The body can convert ALA first to EPA and then to DHA, but this conversion is limited. According to NIH information, less than 15% of ALA is converted to EPA and DHA. Plant sources of omega-3 remain a useful part of the diet, but they do not provide the same amount of preformed EPA and DHA as direct marine sources.

Major dietary sources of EPA and DHA include fatty marine fish such as sardines, herring, mackerel and salmon. Algal oil is another direct source of DHA and, depending on the product, EPA.

EPA and DHA — why the body needs them

EPA and DHA are more than simply “healthy fats”. Fatty acids are components of cell membranes, while EPA and DHA are also involved in the formation of signaling molecules used by cells to regulate their activity and communicate with one another.

DHA — an important structural component of cells

DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) is incorporated into cell membranes and is particularly concentrated in the tissues of the brain and retina.

In simple terms, a cell membrane is more than an outer covering. Its composition affects cell properties, interaction with other cells and signal transmission. DHA is therefore important as a structural component of cell membranes.

EPA — involved in cellular signaling

EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) is also incorporated into cell membranes. In addition, the body can use EPA as a precursor for biologically active signaling molecules.

In very simple terms, DHA is particularly important as structural material for cell membranes, while EPA is particularly relevant as a participant in the formation of regulatory signals. This is a simplification: both fatty acids have multiple functions and do not work in isolation.

Why EPA and DHA are considered together

For this reason, when choosing fish oil it is more useful to look beyond the general term “omega-3” and consider EPA, DHA and their combined amount.

The recommended daily serving of 3 Omega-3 A-Line softgels provides:

  • EPA — 270 mg;
  • DHA — 180 mg;
  • total EPA + DHA — 450 mg per day.
Why 499 mg of fish oil does not mean 499 mg of omega-3

This is one of the most important points when comparing omega-3 products.

One Omega-3 A-Line softgel contains 499 mg of fish oil. This does not mean that it contains 499 mg of EPA + DHA.

Fish oil is a mixture of different fatty acids. Therefore, a large “fish oil” number on the package does not by itself show how much EPA and DHA you actually receive.

At Fitocentr, when comparing omega-3 products, we first look at three numbers: the amount of EPA, the amount of DHA and the combined amount of EPA + DHA in the recommended daily serving.

For Omega-3 A-Line this is 270 mg EPA + 180 mg DHA = 450 mg EPA + DHA per day.

Fish oil — why it is here

Fish oil in this formula matters not simply because it is an oil. Its main role here is to provide EPA and DHA.

Each softgel contains 499 mg of fish oil. A-Line identifies Iceland as the origin of the raw material and states that wild marine fish and a high degree of purification are used.

Another practical feature is the absence of a characteristic fishy taste and odor.

Vitamin E — why it is included

Each softgel contains 1 mg of vitamin E as DL-alpha-tocopheryl acetate. In this formula it is an additional component; the main logic of choosing the product is determined by the fish oil and the amounts of EPA and DHA.

What to consider before choosing
  • the manufacturer recommendation is intended for adults;
  • the daily regimen requires 3 softgels — 1 softgel 3 times daily with meals;
  • soybean oil is included among the other ingredients, which is worth considering if you avoid soy-containing products;
  • contraindications listed by the manufacturer include individual intolerance to the ingredients, pregnancy and breastfeeding;
  • do not exceed the recommended daily amount;
  • a dietary supplement should not be used as a substitute for a varied and balanced diet.

The manufacturer recommends consulting a healthcare professional before use.

How to take

Adults: take 1 softgel 3 times daily with meals.

Recommended duration: 1 month.

The package contains 90 softgels, so at the recommended intake one bottle provides a 30-day supply.

Previously — Novomegin ArtLife

Long-term Fitocentr customers may remember the ArtLife complex called Novomegin. This is the historical name of the previous-generation product.

The older Novomegin formula was multi-ingredient and contained fish oil, flaxseed oil, alpha-linolenic acid, lipoic acid, dihydroquercetin, phospholipids, vitamin E and selenium.

The current Omega-3 A-Line has a different composition. Therefore, the composition, ingredient amounts and directions on this page apply specifically to the current A-Line product.

Need help comparing omega-3 products?

If you are comparing Omega-3 A-Line with another fish oil product, Fitocentr can help compare the EPA amount, DHA amount, combined EPA + DHA per daily serving, number of softgels and origin of the raw material.

This makes it possible to compare products based on what you actually receive per day rather than only by the large “fish oil” number displayed on the front of the package.
